Cotton yarn prices rise further in northern India, textile mills increase production

Foreign news on Feb. 16, northern India cotton yarn continued to run positively on Thursday, with Delhi and Ludhiana cotton yarn prices rising 3-5 rupees per kilogram. Some textile mills sold enough orders to last until the end of March. Cotton spinners have boosted yarn production to fulfill export orders. But Panipat recycled yarn trading activity is thin and prices are little changed.

Delhi carded yarn (cardedyarn) prices rose 5 rupees per kilogram, but combed yarn (combedyarn) prices remained stable. A trader in Delhi said: “By the end of March, spinners have enough export orders. They increased production to meet the growing demand. The average output reached 80% from 50% of the installed capacity.”

In Delhi, prices of 30 count combed yarn were Rs 285-290 per kg (excluding GST), 40 count combed yarn Rs 315-320 per kg, 30 count roving Rs 266-270 per kg and 40 count roving Rs 295-300 per kg, the data showed.

Yarn prices in Ludhiana also showed an upward trend. Cotton yarn prices rose by Rs 3 per kilogram. Ludhiana trade sources said local demand has also improved. Summer may encourage buyers to stock up. Traders believe that the recent price increase has also prompted the consumer sector to increase stocks to meet summer demand. According to the data, 30 count combed yarn is selling at Rs 285-295 per kg (including GST), 20 and 25 count combed yarn at Rs 275-285 and Rs 280-290 per kg and 30 count roving at a steady Rs 265-275 per kg.

Panipat recycled yarn prices were modest due to seasonally light demand. Traders said demand is expected to remain weak until the end of March. Yarn prices also showed a stable trend due to limited buying demand.

Cotton prices in northern India are under pressure due to higher recent arrivals. Traders said the recent rise in cotton prices has led to higher arrivals. Cotton arrivals in northern Indian states increased to 12,000 bales (170 kg per bale). Punjab cotton price per bale 6350-6500 rupees, Haryana cotton price 6350-6500 rupees, Upper Rajasthan cotton price per Moond (37.2 kg) 6575-6625 rupees, Lower Rajasthan cotton price per kandi (356 kg) 61000-63000 rupees.
